Rising for Justice
The mission of Rising for Justice (formerly DC Law Students in Court) is to leverage the collective forces of students and experienced advocates to achieve justice for all. Every year, we directly represent thousands of DC residents who cannot afford counsel in their legal cases and provide related social work services. We also train scores of law students and social work students in our clinical education programs to work with clients alongside our staff attorneys. Much of our work is focused on fighting eviction and preventing homelessness. We also break down barriers to employment and housing with expungement litigation, strengthen family stability by representing respondents in civil protection order cases, and support the preservation and creation of affordable housing. Many, if not most, of our clients are crime victims. Rising for Justice is actively seeking to strengthen our ability to identify the victim status of our clients, enhance our role in ensuring they receive victims' rights representation, and provide them with holistic social work services.
