Internet Browser Security

An abuser may track your Internet history. At TechSafety.org you can find detailed, up-to-date information on how to browse the Internet safely.

Mozilla Firefox (private browsing on computer):

  1. In the far right hand corner, select the button with three straight lines
  2. Select New Private Window:
  3. A new private window with a mask icon in the top right corner will appear.

Mozilla Firefox (clear browsing on cell phone):

  1. Go to the History panel on your home screen.
  2. Select Clear browsing history at the bottom of the History panel.
  3. Select Okay to confirm.

To prevent your mobile phone from saving your history:

  1. Open Firefox browser.
  2. Select the tab next to the URL bar:
  3. Select the gear icon.
  4. Select the Clear browsing history button, then select OK to confirm.

Internet Explorer (private browsing on computer):

  1. Select the gear icon or three small dots in the upper right hand corner.
  2. Select New InPrivate Window.
  3. A new window should pop up that says “Browsing InPrivate” with “InPrivate” on the top left hand side:

  1. In Internet Explorer, select the Tools button, hover over Safety, and then select Delete browsing history.
  2. Choose the types of data or files you want to remove from your PC, and then select Delete.

  1. In Internet Explorer, select the Tools button, and then select Internet options.
  2. Under Browsing history, select Delete.

Internet Explorer 8

  1. In Internet Explorer, select the Safety menu, and then select Delete Browsing History.
  2. Choose the types of data and files you want to remove from your PC, and then select Delete.

Internet Explorer (clear history on cell phone):

  1. Select the three dots on the upper right hand corner of the website
  2. Select Settings from the menu that appears.
  3. Go to your History tab.
  4. Select Options.
  5. Under the History Section select Select.
  6. Place a check in the box next to Browsing History.
  7. Select Delete once you finished making your selections:

Google Chrome (clear history on computer):

  1. Open the Chrome app
  2. Select More
  3. Toward the bottom select Settings
  4. Scroll down to the bottom to see Show advanced settings.
  5. Under Privacy select Clear browsing data.
  6. At the top, select the dropdown menu under Obliterate the following items from:
  7. Choose a time period, such as past hour or past day. To delete everything, select beginning of time.
  8. Select the types of information you want to remove.
  9. Select Clear browsing data.

Google Chrome (safe browsing via cell phone or computer):

  1. In the far right hand corner, select the button with three small dotsor three straight lines .
  2. Select New incognito tab.
  3. A new window will open with the Incognito icon

Safari (clear history on a computer):

  1. In Safari, select the small open book icon at the bottom left or Bookmarks button in the toolbar.
  2. Select the Bookmarks icon in the upper left corner.
  3. Select the History menu.
  4. Select Clear in the lower bottom corner and select how much history to clear: the last hour, the last day, 48 hours’ worth, or all recorded history.

Safari (Privacy Window):

  1. Select the File menu and
  2. Select New Private Window — alternately, you can hold down the command and shift keys and type N.
  3. A new window appears with a dark colored search field instead of a white/opaque one. This is how you can tell you’re using a private browsing window:
